Hospice Volunteers

Volunteer FAQ

What qualities do you look for in a hospice volunteer?

What is the time commitment?
We ask that volunteers sign a one year contract.  Working with your schedule, we ask for a two-to-four hour per week time commitment.

What type of training do you provide for new volunteers?

We offer a comprehensive training that includes hospice history and philosophy. We explore pain and symptom management, spiritual care, ethical issues, family systems, diversity, listening skills, and loss and grief.  Through the hospice volunteer education you will explore your feelings about death and dying. You will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the training.

How often do you offer volunteer training?

We offer trainings throughout the year.

Is there a registration fee for the training?

There is a $40 registration fee. This offsets the cost of supplies and guest speakers.

Do you offer ongoing support for your volunteers?

Yes, we offer regular support meetings as well as educational in-services.

Are there other requirements I should know about?

How do I get started?

Please contact one of the Hospice Volunteer Coordinators at 425.899.1040 to discuss the variety of volunteer opportunities, upcoming volunteer trainings, and the application process.

Complete our online application form.
